Fire Productions (fire)

Founded 1994 by Donut Hole and Halaster out of The Flying Donuts BBS (Atlanta, 404), Fire became one of the biggest mid-decade ANSi groups by sheer volume, 303 alone in 1996. The 1996 total ran to 450+ records, the highest of any group that year. Halaster's signature work anchored the brand; Prisoner#1, Epitaph, Silence, and Pale handled main ANSi production, with Wintermute, Sir Freaksalot, and Agent Orange on VGA, plus coders (Maxwell, Vendetta, Midget Farmer) and RIP/music divisions. The 1995 founding of the "Fire Legend" sub-division, a "too elite" subgroup releasing LEGEND-XX.ZIP packs with Somms, Iodine, Snake Grunger, and Bob the Janitor, captured Fire's mid-decade ambition. The PyroView viewer shipped with packs. Eleven packs a year gave Fire one of the more disciplined cadences in the scene. By August-October 1998 the final pack fire-33 dropped with the editorial honesty Fire deserved: "Plain tired... Fire seems somewhat out of place in the current art scene." Fire's hiatus ended in March 2021 with fire34, a tribute pack from Blocktronics.
