Lazarus (lazarus)

Lazarus was the 1997 ASCII group with the third-highest SAUCE record count of the year, 199 pieces, and a roster that read like the smoking room at a scene defection convention. Founded by five members early 1997, run by Grind King and Warpus after Hennifer's mid-year resignation ("i would sooner let warpus chew on my still flowing bladder then have us fade into obscurity"), it absorbed The Riddler from Blade and Zircus from Fire, plus Gorechild (the iCE artist formerly known as Wyvern). The group's hidden cultural importance was Warpus's IRC #blender, the long-running ASCII compo channel he ran every Wednesday night. Lazarus was effectively the group that owned that compo until handing it off to Mistigris in November 1997. Lazarus didn't have a manifesto-tier identity, but its specific role as competition organizer, defection landing pad, monthly machine made it more central than the group's surface profile suggests.
