Break!ASCII (break)

When Spear and Knocturnal founded Break in September 2013, they were doing for ASCII what Blocktronics had done for ANSi. "Break was started by Spear and I because of a lack of an active ascii group in the artscene... Groups like Blocktronics exist for those of us who wanted to start drawing ansi again, but there is currently no active ascii group in our scene." K1's NFO framed it as "SARS #2", succession from 27 inch's earlier ASCII spin-off SARS. The founding pack listed 14 members: Aesthetic, Ansichrist, Binary Walker, Cleaner, Delicious, Enzo, H7, Haliphax, Iks, Jack Phlash, Knocturnal, Noches, Spear, The Creep Fever. Most were dual-affiliated with Blocktronics. The second pack added irokos and f0st from Titan ("one of if not the best block artists around" which is high praise from k1), zefyros from Finland, and retribution from Roots. By 2016, break marked nine packs and the explicit acknowledgment that "it's a rarity that an ascii group makes it to their 10th release these days." The roster purged Ansichrist for inactivity, picked up Mypal Goo. Ack, Boheme, and Lordnikon guested. Break is what happens when the modern scene takes ASCII seriously and refuses to let it stay a side-project. Annual cadence, sober roster discipline, real demoparty competition with H7 placed 1st at PayBack 2014 ASCII compo, Zefyros 2nd; H7 2nd at DataStorm 2014 Amiga ASCII compo.
