When I'm sketching new font ideas I usually take names of songs from bands I like; in this case Mastodon's Black Tongue. I drew this really gnarly purple tongue and a font and then TNT did his miracle magic and made this. I'm convinced if I ever start a BBS it would be Black Tongue.
