: my call for revival :
by: ne0akt
there was once a time when the sysops of most board took a lot pains to be
able to set their boards apart from others. it was a time when the mantra
was my dick is bigger than your dick.
it was a time when battles to prove which board is the most k-rad raged on
day and night. when sysops were friends beyond the baud, but enemies when
it came to their boards.
back when ego was unheard of, but when pride was everything.
it was the golden era for the bbsing community.
back when a board with nothing but the default menus, default screens, de-
fault everything was frowned, even outright laughed upon. when sysops are
not to be considered human beings until their boards are halfway decent.
but now is not that time there is no use crying over spilt milk.
today is now, yesterday is past. and we have a tomorrow, the future, that
we should look forward to.
the scene is dead. its now time to revive the community.
once again, we must create the intellectual underground where hackers were
once born. where information meant everything. a place where learning is
the ultimate goal.
a haven of the intelligent, the meeting place of the most brilliant minds.
a place where skin color is of no consequence, where fame is earned, where
trust is worth its weight in gold.
the internet lacks the personal touch only bulletin boards can give -- the
stirring conversations, the bondings, the joy of seeing your creation live
and thrive and grow, providing pleasure to others.
that could never be replaced by the static pages controlled by one indivi-
dual or one corporation. it could never be replaced by lousy flash anima-
tions that represents close-mindedness.
pornography and millions of gigabytes of warez could never replace the in-
formation that could be derive from one well-formed board.
but we need help.
the internet could never provide the same rush as a good board, but boards
will not survive catering to only one area code. or one country. or only
one continent.
so we now ride on the internets back as sabotuers, to reach out to people
we could never have reached by simply being dial-up boards. admitting the
power of the internet allowed us to go beyond. to reach people from other
countries.
but that power will be wasted if no one wants to use it.
no matter how good a board is, as long as there are no one calling it, all
the work put into it would mean nothing. nothing at all.
call the boards of today. be part of the intellectual revolution.
