0mansi and ascii alike have, for all intents and purposes, left the
scene in the past few years Kaleidas, Killa Hertz, Msd, Prizm, etc.. due to
the calling of real life. Sadly enough, in both scenes, few new, younger artistshave replaced these legends. Recently, I have been faced with such a dilemma.
8CIn case some of you have not noticed, I have not been nearly as active in the scene as I was before. For that reason this issue of Massive is a month
late and the reviews are outdated at least they should be, but in some cases
are not due to group leaders not having time either. I still have a passion to
draw ascii, to take part in conversations, and to try in general to make the
ascii scene an active bustling place, but since being an ascii artists is not
something that brings in a paycheck I just do not have much time to do it. To mybest ability I will try and draw and also release Massive on as regular of a
schedule as I can, but I really, -really- need the people who enjoy reading
Massive to help out. An emag, no matter who runs it, is judged upon content. A
large part of that content is articles, of which this issue has only two. In thefuture I would ask all those that have any emotion towards the ascii scene to
express it by writing articles for Massive. I no longer have the time to ask
people for articles all the time. So, how successful Massive is in the future isin your hands. If you like it, support it.
8COn that note, I sincerely hope you enjoy this third issue of Massive,
and I look forward to getting contributions for 4.

10C THE ASCII SCENE NEWS ONLY ON CNN!
8CThere is a lot of news this month. That doesnt make sense you say?
Well, since Im almost a month late in releasing this issue of Massive there is
a lot of stuff that was not covered in 2. It was a strategic delay, see? I
knew if I released regularly there would be no up to date news for 4 so I
decided to just skip an issue for the good of the ascii scene. Yeah, thats it.
7C Noname merged with Mimic, in probably the biggest news of the month. When
asked why Cain responded All of Noname had already joined Mimic anyway. So I
decided when you cant beat them, join them!. Through this merger Mimic added
more talent to its already very talented lineup. A few no shows were Polymorph
and Prodigy. Both who have been somewhat inactive for awhile now.
5CNew since last issue, Konami has left Karma for Mimic. The move bolsters
Mimics newschool and makes Karma more dependent on the talents of Mankind and
Haji.
5CBugsy re-surfaced for awhile to release the latest installment of Extended
Play his ascii label entitled Prolific.
Karma and Mimic have opened a large feud. For the most part it seems Mimic
has the support of the ascii scene behind it. Mimic leaders Black Jack and
Serial Toon accuse Mankind, leader of Karma of harassing their members and
breaking recruiting rules. As a result all Karma seniors and several Karma
members have been permabanned from ascii. More on this later in an article by
Mankind.
Remorse still has yet to release. In a great part due to the disappearance of group leader, Necromancer. Who has literally not been active at all in any
capacity scene-wise for two months. No email, no coming onto irc, nothing. As a
result Discofunk and Whodini have tentatively taken over.
5CMydknight, an artist who has made a name for himself in the past few monthshas left Mimic. His departure is the center of the Karma/Mimic feud. Mimic
members claim that somehow Mydknight was harassed to join Karma. When asked
about the situation Mydknight was fairly nonchalant about it all. In what soundslike a soap opera, it is rumored that he has tried re-joining Mimic.
Discyple is back in the scene. Black Jack was spotted running around naked
in the street saying Discyples in Mimic!. He was subsequently dragged away byCanadian bounty hunters and drenched in maple syrup.
Meatpod has taken a more active part in the ascii scene. After a fling withHazmat Cias ascii department he has joined Mimic.
Thats the news. Until next time, this is Irv Fleming, keeping it real in the 91.
/ the midnight judge
im out, nah, its no comming back crap.
****Dont read this, its boring as hell, I really wrote it for myself****
I have just decided I had no more reasons to stay in the scene. It used
to be fun, for fame, for competition, for wars, for fights. But mostly for
friends..
As i am talking, I dont give a shit about fame, since I wont be getting
any in the futur. The scene kind of stopped caring about competition. Groups
release whenever they feel like it. I used to look at 4-5+ packs in the
first 5 days of each months.. and rate em, to figure out who were the
best groups, etc. And when wicked released the 10th of a month, the pack
was fuckin late. Now, i cant even get 1 pack in the first 10 days of a
month, im loosing tracks of the releases, and I dont give a fuck if noname
had a better pack than remorse this month. Cause now its more like, noname
had a pack this month, and remorse didnt.
The scene, by loosing its competition, also lost its fights. Everyoned
say: geez, fighting is lame, but goddamn, peace is fuckin BORING! Were
not hitting each other with swords and shooting ourselves with guns. DEG65
tried to bring the fighting back a little bit, as me and martz were flaming
volatile, drax, and some punks like that. But we lost interrest..it was
kind of childish since we didnt have any good reasons to pick on em.
What kept me goin on, was the friends I had. Thru my 2+ years in the
scene I made many friends. Maybe just IRC friends, but they still were
good friends. I lost many of em, cause they left the scene, and many
other reasons. But now, I dont feel I have any friends left in the scene.
Actually, i do have martz. But I kind of never see him on, cause of time
difference. And beside martz, I lost all the other friends I had for stupid
reasons.. Im thinking of kresile, holystone, tripulogic, and many others..
So, from now on, I dont consider I still have something to do in the
scene.. I hope it lasts for a long time, and it probably will. But will it
be as powerfull as it used to be, with new artists every months, with lame
groups to accept them, and with artists to help em out. That I doubt alot.
This is also why itll not live for ever. Necromancer once said it couldnt
die, because as long as the computers will be there, someone will be there
to draw something on it with ascii codes. Well, when youll be that last
guy drawing lines on your computer, necromancer, i hope youll enjoy it
cause youll probably be the only one to see it...
15CINTERVIEW WITH THE MYSTERIOUS INVISIBLE WOMAN!
8CI didnt conduct an interview with anyone this month. For two reasons,
really. The first one being I didnt have time and the second one being that I
received some negative feedback regarding interviews in general. Some people
told me that they took up too much space and werent interesting. Ill leave it
up to you, the precious reader. Just contact me through email or irc and tell mewhat you would rather have and based on that there will or will not be
interviews in Massive 4.

8CSure, the ascii scene is doing pretty well now, but dont attribute it
to people talking in ascii. Ive only been around three years and I remember
when I first joined ACiD!Ascii and ascii was a channel with three people in it
when I was there. Yet at the time the ascii scene was blossoming with such
groups as Endow, Noname, Trank, and s0ap. A lot of people including myself
view that period as the height of the ascii scene. How did Cain, Prizm/Msd, and
Whodini put out so many packs without ascii, you ask? Simple, in some cases
they used group channels ie: s0ap but for the most part they talked about
stuff in ansi.
8CThe successful launch of ascii has really seperated what used to be twoscenes that were nicely intertwined. If you look back and think about it the
reason no ascii group has surpassed s0ap as far as popularity is in part due to
the fact that for nearly a year and a half now ascii packs havent been offered
anywhere but in ascii. I remember going to ansi and being able to get every
pack I wanted from people offering them or from pHILEz. In essence by only
offering ascii packs in ascii we have been cutting the audience that used to
view ascii packs in half. No longer do ansi artists who like ascii but dont
draw it which is how my position in relation to ansi view ascii packs. If you
were around when Noname and s0ap were around you know that EVERYONE knew about
the rivalry going on between them the same applies to Trank/s0ap. Why? Becauseall conversation took place in one channel and the computer art scene as a wholewas much more unified.
8CAm I saying down with ascii? Thats for you to decide. On one side I
like the independent channel idea, but for that ascii groups and more
importantly ascii artists will be releasing knowing that in a few years only
the people who were in ascii will remember them. Ascii groups will never be
immortalized like Endow, Trank, and s0ap were unless we at least start offering
ascii packs in ansi/ans again. People only know about Remorse because they
knew about ACiD!Ascii and really knew about Trank. Besides us in ascii nobody
knows about Karma, Mimic, or even Odelay I was talking about Odelay once in
ansi and people were like haha.. never heard of them. I dont know about youbut as an artist Id like to be remembered when I leave, and if we continue to
release packs in secret from those in the ansi scene that dont go to ascii
which is basically everyone in the ansi scene none of us are going to be
remembered. I propose that we start offering ascii packs in ansi and ans as a
first step and work from there. If youre a group leader or just interested in
helping out with bots or something contact me on irc or at pariah@alienz.org.

ok. im not gonna waste too many words on the whole mimic-VS-karma-drivel,
for the simple reason that its the ascii scenes biggest joke, the height
of foolishness, on mimics part. mydknight joined karma, and it didnt go
down very will with the mimic seniors, to such an extent they had to come
up with a fictitious rule we had violated, so to speak. how gay is that ?
konami hasnt anyone ever told you the rules? you dont hire people from
a group you are compeating with.
nope. has anyone told you its a load of fucking rubbish, konami ? get real.
there was bj, who reproached me with the fact i was a backstabber, cause
i had told him what i truely thought about mimic. ironic, no ?
there was serial toon, who had funnily released an ascii in which he expres-
sed his respect for the group, and suddenly lost it. it reminds me of kinder-
garten, when drawings were compared, and when whether a kid would like yours
or not, depended on what you thought about his. the comparison says enough.
last but not least, theres cain, who merged noname in the group that devas-
tated it and I think it has gone to his head, cause hes talking nonsense
again.
blkjack Whenever someone said like Im in noname, I would answer
with Isnt noname dead?
blkjack I dont think its possible for cain to run a long term group.
blkjack The original noname was very unorganized.
blkjack Same with kwest
blkjack and now this new noname.
blkjack Its not about loyalty anymore, its about a dead art group
which cain is trying to keep alive :
blkjack NONAME-FUCKING-PRIDE.. bullshit.
blkjack I was in the original noname.
blkjack It blew
blkjack :
blkjack But we know why Noname merged.
furthermore, some of us got permed from ascii, for a reason i still cant
grasp, seeing as weve only violated an invented rule. im not asking to
nullify that ban, since its a blatant sign of fear. i merely wanted a
rectification.

242-*.*.ASC - Good The mix of abstract illegible logos and legible logos stilldoesnt work out. The Massive ascii and the Nine ascii are extremely smooth but
the other logos look more like abstract pics.
5F-MIMIC.ASC - Good Its pretty hard to pull off an elongated vertical logo
and Speed Freak nearly does it here. The shaping on all the letters is pretty
smooth but the coloring takes away from it.
ESS!*.*.ASC - Good Just logos from Essence this month. The idea behind both
logos is unique enough, but in part due to the somewhat random coloring it just
doesnt work.
M7M-CRKL.ANS - Mediocre The shaping on this logo is just too abstract.
MK-*.*.ASC - Excellent Another stellar release from Mankind. The logos are
incredibly smooth, especially MK-ACID and the two pics are simply perfect.
US-CLD.ASC - Good Metal Militias and Speed Freaks styles mix together well.
This would have received an Excellent rating if the coloring was refined a bit.
US-KARMA.ASC - Excellent This is a great joint. The pic is drawn by Mankind,
so you know its good. The logo is drawn by Metal Militia, and shaping wise itshis best of the pack. The real boost here is the coloring and the outlining on
the logo done by Mankind. He enchanced what was just a logo to a graffiti-esque
type joint.
OVERALL - A pretty good release from Karma. Id be lying if I said that Hajis
presence wasnt lacking, though. Mankind was really the one who saved this pack
with his great asciis showing his dedication to the group.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE PACK - Mankind. Not just his pics, but his logos too. Mankind
could open a school teaching how to draw newschool with the stuff he released
this month.

AN-THPOD.ASC - Mediocre Anarchist doesnt have a bad style but he doesnt varyit at all in this whole colly and it gets a little annoying.
BJ-*.*.ASC - Excellent A great pic artist draws great pics. The Diablo pic
looks exactly like the original piece and the other pic of Freud? has that
unique photo style to it.
DS-MIM01.ASC - Excellent This is one of the best asciis Ive seen from
Deadsoul. The pic, as usual, is excellent and the fonts are top caliber as well
GDR-MIM.ASC - Excellent Gravedancer has started employing some new techniques
in his pics since he started getting involved in the ansi scene. The semicolon
shading on the hair is a really nice effect and in general his shading has
become some of the best Ive ever seen. The Mimic logo has a Eerie flair to it
and it works very nicely as well.
GNK-HARD.ASC - Excellent This is a smooth inverse logo.
KO-CRAB.ASC - Good This one looks a little rushed compared to Konamis usual
submissions.
MID-*.*.ASC - Mydknight has really developed a nice comic book pic style over
the past few months. With quality production like he shows in this release hes
shaping up to become a great ascii artist.
MK-MIMIC.ASC - Good Its a bold effort but it just doesnt work out. Unlike
the ACiD ascii in the Karma pack that uses the same technique the ansi chars
are too limiting with this logo.
PR-MIMIC.ASC - Excellent Its nice to see Prodigy drawing again, even if it
isnt full time. Simply put this is a perfect abstract logo.
SCK-MMC1.ASC - Good The pic looks like a toony Savage Dragon and whether that
was on purpose or not it doesnt look that good as an ascii. The logo could haveused some touching up.
TK-MIMIC.ASC - Good It looks like this was a full logo that got cut up in
certain places, but that effect is on purpose. Its still smooth, but perhaps a
little too abstract.
OVERALL - This was an excellent release from the Mimic crew. People who said it
wouldnt last more than one pack have already been proven wrong. This release i
actually better than the first and thats a great sign for the success of the
group.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE PACK - The highlight of this pack is an artist whos fairly newto the all-ascii scene, Mydknight. He made a big impact in this pack with seven
high quality pics.

7R-*.*.ASC - Good Some interesting styles from Tripulogic but the refining on
the little things is still lacking. It takes time to develop that.
DSP-MIX.ASC - Excellent This is surprisingly good for a mixed ascii. All
floating heads, yes, but it still works.
KA-*.*.ASC - Good Incorporating the graffiti style to ascii is innovative
enough but some months it just doesnt work as well as other months. Some of theshaping on the logos and backgrounds is a little off.
KR-*.*.ASC - Excellent Kresiles really found himself as an ascii artist. All
of his logos this month are smooth and he shows off a few different lettering
styles in this release.
NW-BLUE.ASC - Excellent Its great to see Discyple drawing again. This ascii
is perfect in all aspects.
PK-*.*.ASC - Mediocre Psylocks field really isnt logos and it shows. Keep
working on it though, this is the first month he really focuses on logos.
SMP-*.*.ASC - Good Shrimps style is like an acquired taste, not everyone
likes it. The general proportions on the pics seems to be off, but its
obviously drawn like that on purpose.
US-CLASS.ASC - Good It looks pretty nice but it has some rough edges. The
on class is a little off and the coloring doesnt help. On the other hand the
inversed K and looks really nice.
US-EP.ASC - Excellent Theres an undescribable eliteness to this logo. It has
Cains bubbly graffiti look to it with Nahals more gothic-like influence the
ends of the letters all end in points, etc...
US-NO.ASC - Good This is pretty good. The idea of mixing oldschool and
newschool is nice and it works out. Some of the shaping on the name part of
Noname could use a little refining, but overall the mix works well.
OVERALL - This is an Excellent release from the Noname crew. Three months in a
row and three packs that have all been improvements over the previous release.
It looks that will end now though, with Noname merging into Mimic.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE PACK - Yeah, Discyple did release a logo, but Kresile gets
Highlight honors. He released a lot of excellent logos in this pack and is
definitely becoming a great ascii artist.
8CI noticed there was some confusion about the Picks of the Month from
last issue so I want to clear a few things up. The Picks of the Month are NOT
ranked. The numbers associated with each pick simply refers to the order in
which I viewed each ascii. Im not for ranking the Picks of the Month because
to me an excellent ascii is an excellent ascii. Ranking the Picks of the Month
would only undermine the accomplishments of the artists.
8CThe artists who sent me 20 each in order to gain Pick of the Month
honors are in viewing order: Mankind, Mankind/Metal Militia, Mydknight,
Kresile, Discyple, and Black Jack.
8CCongratulations!
15C MASSIVE 4: THE OUTRO
8CWell, as I previously stated this issue is somewhat outdated. Hopefully
with more contributions from people Ill have enough articles to release the
next issue on time. Remember, Im really depending on you, the reader to write
for Massive. Everyone likes emags, but few take action to keep them going. If
theres something you feel strong about in the ascii scene dont hesitate
writing about and sending the article to me via email at pariah@alienz.org or
to me on irc if you can catch me when Im on.
8CThanks to all the people who helped out with this issue. Especially
Mankind, who, by sending me an article without me asking for it is the main
reason that this issue got released in the first place. Look for Massive 4 to
hit shelves October 25th!
