Zenith (zenith)

Founded 1998 with a tidy roster of Fever (defected from Twilight), Mr 4Tune, PhonyEye, Retribution, Savage Dragon and a four-pack run (zenith01 through zenith04). The first pack's NFO opened with optimism that already feels dated: "It has been a long time. The scene is once more becoming vibrant, and people are drawing again. Although many of the boards aren't coming back, people are drawing finally for art's sake." Zenith never broke out, but the framing matters. By 1998 the scene's center of gravity had shifted from boards to the post-BBS web era, and Zenith's "art for art's sake" pitch was the new pose. They lasted long enough to be cited as a Twilight alternative and short enough to disappear quietly.
