ATOMiC (atomic)
A January 1993 founding out of the DC area (301), built around Bjorn as ATOMiC Head with a deep bench: Star Gazer on programming, Void Traveler coordinating ANSi, Angst running VGA, Max Mallard on .MOD music, Al the Man on .FLI, Icepick coordinating.
The technical layer set ATOMiC apart. The AAV12 viewer played MODs in the background and toggled between 25-line and 50-line modes, small features in 1993, but the kind of thing that signaled this was a group that cared about how its work was experienced, not just produced.
By 1994 ATOMiC had given way to AXE (Atomic Xpedition) and the brand faded, but for one year the DC scene had a real flagship.
