In a past life I ran the
the scene group FLAiR that
specialized in obscure and
out of print films on VHS,
Laserdisc and more. Agonizing
over AviSynth cleanup scripts
and our analog capture setups.
Spending untold money on high
end SVHS decks and capture
cards. We wrote endlessly long
.nfo files exlpaining our rips
like how we sourced a VHS with
hardcoded English subs to then
hand transcribe to digital subs
to fill the hole on the official
DVD of Rokk Reykjavk and where
those VHS subs dropped out we
contacted an Icelandic friend to
to patch translate the rest.
I found my way into the scene
because of the .nfo file art
and cracktros that spoke to me.
I took up the name h8o4 which had
punk rock origins from my home
town in Richmond Virginia where
the phone area code is 804. The
nick would soon shortern to h8
and beyond my FLAiR involvement
I would begin making .nfo files
for scene groups as h8!HiGHONASCII
All these years since my youth
I kept up with the demoscenes
annual parties and downloaded
prods praying my PC could run
them.
And the point of this screed,
is to call back once more to
those long .nfo my friends and
I would write, and to serve the
long running desire to attend a
demo party. Although I used to
do block style ASCII I never did
old school line art but when I
finally saw what Topaz2 did I
couldnt put it down.
This is my first demoscene entry,
hopefully not my last. To FLAiR
to Richmond. To Mountainbytes.
