Hei, whats new beautifull people? :
ps back in business once again. Did you miss me? Anyways, i was
busy with that sunray thingie so i couldnt entertain you all for
about one month. now im back though covered up to my head with
photocopies and exams. Im gonna try to keep going demojournal for
these 2 months while im on exams but dont expect too much
because i really should be studying and not writting this crap and
getting interviews and reviews and news and whatever!
If anyone out there feels like taking care of demojournal for about
2 months and feels up to the job of delivering fresh news and a nifty
collection of reviews and interview per week then by all means let
me know couz i could use another break right now.. If this survives
till march ill keep doing it till summer but i dont know if i can
keep this newsletter running much longer..

System requirements:
8 MB RAM, Vesa for video, Midas for sound, and for certain parts
a PII wouldnt hurt.
The demo:
Hmm, this is a strange beast. It starts liked a mood-demo, a la
Timeless etc: one very slowly varying effect, in this case radial
blur. Actually there are different parts that are radial blurred:
a 3D object, a flower-shaped tunnel, a circle of flares..., but they
fade nicely into each other. On top of this, first the
group/party/title are shown, and then texts like your happiness,
your smile, the typical feeling-messages :. But halfway through
the demo, the style changes to more varied effects. A number of
separate fragments come together to form a solid picture, a bit like
the hexagons in Zilog/Sunflower. Then a wobbling landscape is shown,
with a raster of anti-aliased lines but its still solid. I think
they used textures under the raster, anyway the result is heavily
blurred, looks good and is also very slow :- The greetings also
appear in this part, but youve got to read fast: after three
frames the names are already an almost solid smear. The joys of
blurring... :-/ At the end a 3D-jet flies over a landscape, the
plane looks OK but the camera stays always right behind it, so you
cant see much of the landscape. The music is an ambient but happy
tune, with choirs and bells, and after a while a soft beat kicks in.
Trope, the author calls this style Dream Trance, and its an accurate
description. Syncing is at the part-level, not at the effect-level.
For example, the center of the radial blur jumps to different places,
but it does so unrelated to the music.
Worth the download ?
Static is not an exceptional demo, but its enjoyable, especially
when you like the music which take 7 MB, by the way. I can see why
some people switch to MP3. The switch between mood- and effect-demo
feels a bit strange IMO, but you get used to it after a while. Some
minor bad points are the 3 press keyboard messages during startup
4 under windows, and the font that looks blocky. If you want to
zoom in/out on text, its better to use a big font and scale it down,
rather then taking a small one and scaling it up. But all in all its
an OK demo, the quality you expect for the winner of a small party.
If everyone would reach this standard, the world would be a better
place :

After a longer period of silence, here is a new United Force
intro, in their special style. So far their best work was the
demo at Rage 1998, which is quite similar to this one.
The music kills, it is great. I can not cathegorize it...
Well, it is Sly Spy style : The samples are software
synthetised, that is how such a great tune was managed to be
squeezed into less than 64 kilobytes. I think that the whole
intro is about the music, every effect is synchronised to it,
and even the types of effects follow its mood.
The intro runs in high resolution 640x480 and 256 colors.
There is only one palette through the whole intro, one with
shades of green from black to white. Everything is very
blurry. The background is filled with some messy tunnel and
light spot effects there is a strange noisy effect, something
like 2d water or bump there is a voxel cylinder, and
sometimes there are rolling cogwheels - these are all. Oh, and
I almost forgot to mention that ugly logo which is shown in
every United Force demo and intro.
This intro is in a special style, it may happen that others
think way differently about it. There are no revolutionary
effects, and the logo is rather weak... Nevertheless, if you
like the style of Sly Spy, you will love this intro. The music
is the best part of it, and the way how the effects follow it.

disqualified at Assembly 1997
This is quite an abstract intro. The tune is a strange
computer music, with strings. There are two logo-texts the
intro starts with a Motherlode logo, and ends with a Fudge
logo. Apart from these, no graphics or texts are displayed in
the intro - just effects.
The videomode is low resolution with high color, the textures
are drawn with bilinear filtering. Most of the time there is
some bitmap effect in the background ie. tunnel, plasma, or
whatever you call that tile filler. In the foreground there
are 3d objects changing shapes - and they look amazing.
...while in the background there is that red swiping morphy
plasma, that blue morphing whatever comes in from the
right... - I had better not get into details in describing
the effects. Go and watch it, its worth.
The textures are fine, the colors fit well together, the logos
are all right, and the music and the visuals are kept
together.
I think that this intro would get a good place at any party,
even nowadays. It is a pity that it got disqualified at the
Assembly for some kind of technical problem.

Hei, whats new beautifull people? :
ps back in business once again. Did you miss me? Anyways, i was
busy with that sunray thingie so i couldnt entertain you all for
about one month. now im back though covered up to my head with
photocopies and exams. Im gonna try to keep going demojournal for
these 2 months while im on exams but dont expect too much
because i really should be studying and not writting this crap and
getting interviews and reviews and news and whatever!
If anyone out there feels like taking care of demojournal for about
2 months and feels up to the job of delivering fresh news and a nifty
collection of reviews and interview per week then by all means let
me know couz i could use another break right now.. If this survives
till march ill keep doing it till summer but i dont know if i can
keep this newsletter running much longer..

System requirements:
8 MB RAM, Vesa for video, Midas for sound, and for certain parts
a PII wouldnt hurt.
The demo:
Hmm, this is a strange beast. It starts liked a mood-demo, a la
Timeless etc: one very slowly varying effect, in this case radial
blur. Actually there are different parts that are radial blurred:
a 3D object, a flower-shaped tunnel, a circle of flares..., but they
fade nicely into each other. On top of this, first the
group/party/title are shown, and then texts like your happiness,
your smile, the typical feeling-messages :. But halfway through
the demo, the style changes to more varied effects. A number of
separate fragments come together to form a solid picture, a bit like
the hexagons in Zilog/Sunflower. Then a wobbling landscape is shown,
with a raster of anti-aliased lines but its still solid. I think
they used textures under the raster, anyway the result is heavily
blurred, looks good and is also very slow :- The greetings also
appear in this part, but youve got to read fast: after three
frames the names are already an almost solid smear. The joys of
blurring... :-/ At the end a 3D-jet flies over a landscape, the
plane looks OK but the camera stays always right behind it, so you
cant see much of the landscape. The music is an ambient but happy
tune, with choirs and bells, and after a while a soft beat kicks in.
Trope, the author calls this style Dream Trance, and its an accurate
description. Syncing is at the part-level, not at the effect-level.
For example, the center of the radial blur jumps to different places,
but it does so unrelated to the music.
Worth the download ?
Static is not an exceptional demo, but its enjoyable, especially
when you like the music which take 7 MB, by the way. I can see why
some people switch to MP3. The switch between mood- and effect-demo
feels a bit strange IMO, but you get used to it after a while. Some
minor bad points are the 3 press keyboard messages during startup
4 under windows, and the font that looks blocky. If you want to
zoom in/out on text, its better to use a big font and scale it down,
rather then taking a small one and scaling it up. But all in all its
an OK demo, the quality you expect for the winner of a small party.
If everyone would reach this standard, the world would be a better
place :

After a longer period of silence, here is a new United Force
intro, in their special style. So far their best work was the
demo at Rage 1998, which is quite similar to this one.
The music kills, it is great. I can not cathegorize it...
Well, it is Sly Spy style : The samples are software
synthetised, that is how such a great tune was managed to be
squeezed into less than 64 kilobytes. I think that the whole
intro is about the music, every effect is synchronised to it,
and even the types of effects follow its mood.
The intro runs in high resolution 640x480 and 256 colors.
There is only one palette through the whole intro, one with
shades of green from black to white. Everything is very
blurry. The background is filled with some messy tunnel and
light spot effects there is a strange noisy effect, something
like 2d water or bump there is a voxel cylinder, and
sometimes there are rolling cogwheels - these are all. Oh, and
I almost forgot to mention that ugly logo which is shown in
every United Force demo and intro.
This intro is in a special style, it may happen that others
think way differently about it. There are no revolutionary
effects, and the logo is rather weak... Nevertheless, if you
like the style of Sly Spy, you will love this intro. The music
is the best part of it, and the way how the effects follow it.

disqualified at Assembly 1997
This is quite an abstract intro. The tune is a strange
computer music, with strings. There are two logo-texts the
intro starts with a Motherlode logo, and ends with a Fudge
logo. Apart from these, no graphics or texts are displayed in
the intro - just effects.
The videomode is low resolution with high color, the textures
are drawn with bilinear filtering. Most of the time there is
some bitmap effect in the background ie. tunnel, plasma, or
whatever you call that tile filler. In the foreground there
are 3d objects changing shapes - and they look amazing.
...while in the background there is that red swiping morphy
plasma, that blue morphing whatever comes in from the
right... - I had better not get into details in describing
the effects. Go and watch it, its worth.
The textures are fine, the colors fit well together, the logos
are all right, and the music and the visuals are kept
together.
I think that this intro would get a good place at any party,
even nowadays. It is a pity that it got disqualified at the
Assembly for some kind of technical problem.
