System requirements:
3.7 MB HD. Rather unstable, crashes sometimes, regardless of
raw/XMS/EMM As usual, nothing mentioned in any txt-file. I tried to
find the Gravity compo-rules to get the specs of the compo-machine,
but they werent in Hugi or Fleur so... Looking at the 32-bit
effects, MMX is probably a must.

PS! Why didnt you mention in the newscorner that the new group
Sunflower is formed by among others ex-Pulse members? editor:
because its not! just some pulse and some friends of unreal
I remember having looked at the results, but as Sunflower didnt
ring a bell in my mind, as Gravity is a rather small party, and as
there were other party-winners to review, I didnt bother to check
Zilog. Aaargh! I would hit you on the head with a printout of all
DJ issues 2.9 meg already, if a Portugal wasnt so far from
Belgium and b you had not insisted on me reviewing Zilog for which
I should be very grateful. editor: ofcourse you should! its one
of the best demos of the year!
The demo:
So, the new-but-not-newbie group Sunflower has placed 2nd with
Zilog at Gravity 4. The catch is that they also got the 1st place
with Wonder, a 3D-accelerated demo. It probably explains why Zilog
concentrates mainly on special 3D. So no big 3D-worlds a la Tribes
or Sunflower, and also no theme/story. Its closer to 73 Million
Seconds, so design is very important. One of the design-elements is
the mixing of 3D with anti-aliased lines, such as a bounding box for
moving trails of light, or the white contours of the organic-looking
3D-forms. Also flares sometimes even black, saturated merges or
other forms of light are on every screen. The transitions are
something to pay attention to. One part comes up with a combination
of a fade and little bites taken from the old part. On another
screen, the face of a girl disappears, showing another effect, while
the rest of the picture stays intact for a little longer. I think the
code to do that is fairly simple with height-maps, but the result
is sooo good-looking. The best transition IMHO are the little
rotating hexagons, gripping each other to form a background.
Talking about backgrounds: almost every screen has one, and theyre
made by Visualize. Need we say more? Partly photoshopped
color-patterns, partly detailed hand-drawn pics in that very
recognizable style. Something new is the use of very fast
appearing/disappearing symbols, messages and boxes. Not flashing,
but rather like subliminal messages. I cant read them, but its
meant to be that way :. It helps to separate the demo in faster and
more relaxed parts.
editor: i totaly disagree! This is true mrocks style! Weird and
thoughtfull! Visualizes graphics fit in wonderfull and
falcons music goes by wonderfully synced on the effects!
voomie did some weird 3d objects...
Mrock is the man!!! He kicks ass for the lord!
And this demo is said to been made on a 486
The music:
First I thought it had a techno-track but luckily, thats not the
case. It starts with some simple percussion with some experimental
instruments that probably have no name, so Im not gonna guess.
After a while, a soft, dreamy piano or synth gets slowly audible,
with slow variations on only a few notes. Its simplicity is
counterbalanced by the percussion that gets rather complex as more
and more strange samples are used. Except for a solo of the piano,
the tune stays much the same, until at the end some ethereal flutes
play a strange atonal melody. Of course everything that moves or
flashes does so following the beats or the lead. Did you expect
anything less?
Worth the download ?
It wouldnt be fair to call Sunflower the sequel to Pulse, as they
have many new members, but the influence from the former Pulse
Poland-section is very recognizable in this demo. Thats probably
because Sunflower made two demos at the same time, so they had to
divide the members, and three of the four people who made Zilog were
in Pulse Falcon, Visualize and Voomie, I think Mrock is new. The
result from their hard work has great design, superb graphics, good
code and perfect-fitting music. Bad points? At the part with the
morphing wire-cube, the edges of the screen are ugly, but Im sure
they did it on purpose just to show that the perfect demo doesnt
exist :. OK, more seriously, the party-version is unstable as hell.
I usually reboot before watching it, so I have only 30 chance of
crashing a 1/3th of it, while watching it twice without boot has a
60 chance of crashing, regardless of configuration. I hope theres
a final on the way that fixes that problem. In the meanwhile,
countless PCs will be rebooted over and over again just to watch
Zilog one more time.

no. not again a mewlers/mfx production, becouse the dear readers
will say that i am prejudied. so an another skandinavian production
is comming up after the break!

On the desktop we have now NahKolors 2nd ranked intro from Asm99
called sooo easy: Flekk. It is a short peace of art, some default
effects are mixed up with cute design. The music is made in Poland,
but still that finnish Dune-Muffler like style. This means NOT that
it is bad, Daze did a great job. Colors are mainly blue, orange,
yellow and white on a black screen. And the effects are mainly
splines combined like a DNS. The lights are looking really good, and
the overall feeling is waving, and a bit pessimistic. an interresting
thing with my virge gx2. the intro showed me the first screen only in
win9x, and with univbe loaded. not working in dos with univbe
blank. and never without it. i really dont know why, i got really
much resulution in all color depth. default 55, with univbe 78.

This song is so cool. Lebe meine welt, lebe meine welt, lebe meine
welt, ... said very fast introduces this pulsating track. Its a bit
similar to KBs style - a lot of electronical instruments which
change a lot, so the song doesnt become too monotonous. They are
supported by some vocals, mostly variation of lebe meine welt.
Its not a piece of art and it could be better shorter or with more
significant change during the song but I like it.

Great song by radix. It differs from his other songs, it is very
atmospherical with soft woman voice in the background, no major
foreground instrument, only piano and human voice. The song has very
extinct drums which arent sharp and dont abuse. Full version
contains also a part with flute which was for compo removed. Whole
song sounds very softly and I really, really like it very much.
After some time a release from radix you dont have to consider
whether you should download it. level of all music from ltp is very
high - higher than on most parties which were held this year

Maybe youll remember that Ive already reviewed one track by Jobe
which was called Moisture. Bitnik has contacted me again, saying I
shall download this track - that Ill love it. So I did.
The style of this tune is similar to style of Moisture. Its that
ambient noise drum, different than the usual scene production. The
noise sounds are more electronical than in the previous song, its a
bit about something different, its less energetic, more into dnb,
but the quality of the song is same and its great as background
music for reading demojournal. : If you liked Moisture, youll
probably like it.

Again some tracks by Awesome. First is 5meg dance remix of For a
new world. Well its better than the original version imho, but a
bit big. Next is 4meg mp3 release named awsinad which contains only
2 minutes of music - thats what I call wasting my harddisk space.
Last one aprox 1meg big release is Medieval Ambience. Its funny
that this one is the best.
In style its a sequel to Ancient stories. Atmosphere of this
tune moves between low and dark part in the beginning with very low
voice that reminds me on atmopshere of the game Unreal, and an
optimistic part which is in my opinion too happy. Watch the great
transitions between the parts and accessory melodies. If you liked
Ancient stories, you will probably like it.

System requirements:
3.7 MB HD. Rather unstable, crashes sometimes, regardless of
raw/XMS/EMM As usual, nothing mentioned in any txt-file. I tried to
find the Gravity compo-rules to get the specs of the compo-machine,
but they werent in Hugi or Fleur so... Looking at the 32-bit
effects, MMX is probably a must.

PS! Why didnt you mention in the newscorner that the new group
Sunflower is formed by among others ex-Pulse members? editor:
because its not! just some pulse and some friends of unreal
I remember having looked at the results, but as Sunflower didnt
ring a bell in my mind, as Gravity is a rather small party, and as
there were other party-winners to review, I didnt bother to check
Zilog. Aaargh! I would hit you on the head with a printout of all
DJ issues 2.9 meg already, if a Portugal wasnt so far from
Belgium and b you had not insisted on me reviewing Zilog for which
I should be very grateful. editor: ofcourse you should! its one
of the best demos of the year!
The demo:
So, the new-but-not-newbie group Sunflower has placed 2nd with
Zilog at Gravity 4. The catch is that they also got the 1st place
with Wonder, a 3D-accelerated demo. It probably explains why Zilog
concentrates mainly on special 3D. So no big 3D-worlds a la Tribes
or Sunflower, and also no theme/story. Its closer to 73 Million
Seconds, so design is very important. One of the design-elements is
the mixing of 3D with anti-aliased lines, such as a bounding box for
moving trails of light, or the white contours of the organic-looking
3D-forms. Also flares sometimes even black, saturated merges or
other forms of light are on every screen. The transitions are
something to pay attention to. One part comes up with a combination
of a fade and little bites taken from the old part. On another
screen, the face of a girl disappears, showing another effect, while
the rest of the picture stays intact for a little longer. I think the
code to do that is fairly simple with height-maps, but the result
is sooo good-looking. The best transition IMHO are the little
rotating hexagons, gripping each other to form a background.
Talking about backgrounds: almost every screen has one, and theyre
made by Visualize. Need we say more? Partly photoshopped
color-patterns, partly detailed hand-drawn pics in that very
recognizable style. Something new is the use of very fast
appearing/disappearing symbols, messages and boxes. Not flashing,
but rather like subliminal messages. I cant read them, but its
meant to be that way :. It helps to separate the demo in faster and
more relaxed parts.
editor: i totaly disagree! This is true mrocks style! Weird and
thoughtfull! Visualizes graphics fit in wonderfull and
falcons music goes by wonderfully synced on the effects!
voomie did some weird 3d objects...
Mrock is the man!!! He kicks ass for the lord!
And this demo is said to been made on a 486
The music:
First I thought it had a techno-track but luckily, thats not the
case. It starts with some simple percussion with some experimental
instruments that probably have no name, so Im not gonna guess.
After a while, a soft, dreamy piano or synth gets slowly audible,
with slow variations on only a few notes. Its simplicity is
counterbalanced by the percussion that gets rather complex as more
and more strange samples are used. Except for a solo of the piano,
the tune stays much the same, until at the end some ethereal flutes
play a strange atonal melody. Of course everything that moves or
flashes does so following the beats or the lead. Did you expect
anything less?
Worth the download ?
It wouldnt be fair to call Sunflower the sequel to Pulse, as they
have many new members, but the influence from the former Pulse
Poland-section is very recognizable in this demo. Thats probably
because Sunflower made two demos at the same time, so they had to
divide the members, and three of the four people who made Zilog were
in Pulse Falcon, Visualize and Voomie, I think Mrock is new. The
result from their hard work has great design, superb graphics, good
code and perfect-fitting music. Bad points? At the part with the
morphing wire-cube, the edges of the screen are ugly, but Im sure
they did it on purpose just to show that the perfect demo doesnt
exist :. OK, more seriously, the party-version is unstable as hell.
I usually reboot before watching it, so I have only 30 chance of
crashing a 1/3th of it, while watching it twice without boot has a
60 chance of crashing, regardless of configuration. I hope theres
a final on the way that fixes that problem. In the meanwhile,
countless PCs will be rebooted over and over again just to watch
Zilog one more time.

yeah i know im late, because the fucking highschools computer lab
isnt open yet, but hey ps, you got now a gus pnp with 8 mb ram,

no. not again a mewlers/mfx production, becouse the dear readers
will say that i am prejudied. so an another skandinavian production
is comming up after the break!

On the desktop we have now NahKolors 2nd ranked intro from Asm99
called sooo easy: Flekk. It is a short peace of art, some default
effects are mixed up with cute design. The music is made in Poland,
but still that finnish Dune-Muffler like style. This means NOT that
it is bad, Daze did a great job. Colors are mainly blue, orange,
yellow and white on a black screen. And the effects are mainly
splines combined like a DNS. The lights are looking really good, and
the overall feeling is waving, and a bit pessimistic. an interresting
thing with my virge gx2. the intro showed me the first screen only in
win9x, and with univbe loaded. not working in dos with univbe
blank. and never without it. i really dont know why, i got really
much resulution in all color depth. default 55, with univbe 78.

This song is so cool. Lebe meine welt, lebe meine welt, lebe meine
welt, ... said very fast introduces this pulsating track. Its a bit
similar to KBs style - a lot of electronical instruments which
change a lot, so the song doesnt become too monotonous. They are
supported by some vocals, mostly variation of lebe meine welt.
Its not a piece of art and it could be better shorter or with more
significant change during the song but I like it.

Great song by radix. It differs from his other songs, it is very
atmospherical with soft woman voice in the background, no major
foreground instrument, only piano and human voice. The song has very
extinct drums which arent sharp and dont abuse. Full version
contains also a part with flute which was for compo removed. Whole
song sounds very softly and I really, really like it very much.
After some time a release from radix you dont have to consider
whether you should download it. level of all music from ltp is very
high - higher than on most parties which were held this year

Maybe youll remember that Ive already reviewed one track by Jobe
which was called Moisture. Bitnik has contacted me again, saying I
shall download this track - that Ill love it. So I did.
The style of this tune is similar to style of Moisture. Its that
ambient noise drum, different than the usual scene production. The
noise sounds are more electronical than in the previous song, its a
bit about something different, its less energetic, more into dnb,
but the quality of the song is same and its great as background
music for reading demojournal. : If you liked Moisture, youll
probably like it.

Again some tracks by Awesome. First is 5meg dance remix of For a
new world. Well its better than the original version imho, but a
bit big. Next is 4meg mp3 release named awsinad which contains only
2 minutes of music - thats what I call wasting my harddisk space.
Last one aprox 1meg big release is Medieval Ambience. Its funny
that this one is the best.
In style its a sequel to Ancient stories. Atmosphere of this
tune moves between low and dark part in the beginning with very low
voice that reminds me on atmopshere of the game Unreal, and an
optimistic part which is in my opinion too happy. Watch the great
transitions between the parts and accessory melodies. If you liked
Ancient stories, you will probably like it.
