death to the old school
listen, this is now, this is here, this is me,
this is what i wanted you to see
that was then, was that, that is gone, this is past,
you cast yourself cast, passed by, gone down fast
- r.e.m., so fast, so numb
with people going back to school all, there is less active ar
tists in the
scene, therefore, a saturation. samsara pretty much avoided
it by getting
new members every month, always increasing in quality trying
to put up the
coolest shit around. were cool cats like that.
but you know, nietzsche said it best: you gotta know when to d
ie, too.
samsara got such quick unexpected success that seriously, try
ing to keep it
running forever would be a waste - so now, heres the quick u
nexpected
death note. shocked? read on, youll understand.
face it - the peak of life is at birth. samsara lived, it was
intense,
now, well, enough is enough. i dont think its ever possible
to do better
than weve already done, unless we take two or three months to
make a single
pack, which would be a pretty retarded annoying thing to do f
or everyone.
were dying at the top, too! i mean, i guess im biased, but t
he four
samsara packs are all some of my favorite packs of all time - n
ot only
art-wise, but also as collections. most groups will release al
l their ansis,
vgas, rips, then bye bye. samsara made a point of making pac
ks a cool
thing to view, even if you wouldnt care about the art.
weve had awesome *new* artists, none of those oldschool ansi
legends who
do nothing but sit on their ego doodle once a year so they co
uld keep their
name on the acid memberlist. weve challenged the whole art sc
ene by
releasing stuff in styles rarely seen before. weve been phunk
, yeah, but
not just as in throwing colors randomly until your eyes bleed
. just look
at what hannibal lecter/mca, definitely one of the most innovat
ive font
artists ever a source of inspiration for most of us, had to s
ay on this in
an interview from undergrown 7:
people think they can use a bunch of ugly crap an
d be phunky. phunk
has a lot of humour in it, but if you just pile a bunch
of shit
together, it always shows, its not phunk. the quali
ty people with
the funk actually work to get the shit together. i thi
nk that to be
phunky now, you have to really just do something nobody
has done.

radiction, but
its a paradox, and its really possible.

following that definition, i think we can say samsara was a phu
nky group - at
first. but hype never helps, no matter what, it would have b
een hard to
change our course from the direction we were headed to.
so there - by fighting the establishment, weve become establis
hed. duh.
well, mind you, when you come to that realization - very few
even get to
that point - the better thing to do might just be to stop it, u
nless you
consider surfing on a contradiction to be a fun sport.
thats it, im truly sorry for all the members others who w
ere expecting
it to go further. though, to those people, i say: why dont y
ou go fuck
shit up too? look at fluor, the night angel the night discip
le: out of
the blue, they decided that the scene needed a real logo group,
therefore
formed awe. ta-dah! something new is done! something lives!
want any other examples? eclipse, for one. even though the ar
t is never
exactly groundbreaking, id choose their packs over ice anytime
. their
attitude is fresh, fun definitely welcomed in a scene where t
he deeper is
that stick up your ass, the more respect you get. plus, they
arent afraid
to do things no one else would do, such as the fake eclipse/aci
d merger pack.
ophidiac is another example. and, even though i admit im not
all for a
group that would let anyone in, no matter how good or bad, i ha
ve to give
massive props to dieznyik for being one of the only artists in
the scene who
takes time to do new stuff, right now. his art is also amazi
ngly fresh
great. people like that are what the scene needs.
those are the most obvious - but theres coolness in many other
groups, too.
namechecking each every of them would be impossible, because
id forget
some.
anyhow.
here we were - 4 packs, were gone. i have no idea what the
future will be
like for all of us, but i have the feeling that samsara, as a g
roup as an
idea, will have been a positive contribution to the art scene a
s a whole.
evolution comes from quirks, samsara was definitely one.
ok. i better stop now before i turn into shihear kallizad 2.
before, though, id like to personally greet each every samsa
ra member for
the fun time, the awesome art, the cool attitude. ill stay
in touch with
you. i mean, im not leaving the scene anytime soon.
i would also like to adress a personal greet to the rza, who is
a good friend
of mine who started samsara with me, on a fit, almost as a joke
. we wanted
something to happen, we made it happen. the nice thing about
the scene is
that theres no real money involved. you can start a group whe
never, kill
it, do all you want, you wont be in trouble. so thats what
we did,
much to our surprise it worked. guess we did something right,
somehow.
but just as importantly, thanks to you, whos reading this, for
viewing this
pack whatever other samsara packs youve seen. thanks for su
pporting us
our philosophy. samsara might be dead from now on, but the mem
ory the idea
lives. hope youll keep it alive.
