shaquille oneal, wordsmith extraordinaire.
i cite the following specific examples, from
his debut hip-hop masterpiece, shaq diesel...
NOTE: i had to write some of the words phoe-
netically, seeing as theyre not real words.
SUB-NOTE: haji gets street cred for listen-
ing to some rap.
SUB-NOTE: haji gets MORE street cred for
STEALING the tape which the rap music is on.
i got a hand thatll rock ya cradle,
cream ya like cheese, spread ya on my bagel.
knick-knack, shaq attack, give a dog a bone.
but theres some things that i gotta do,
tape up the ankle, pump up the shaq-shoe.
you betta ask m.c. hamma bout this bad mamma-jamma
tall kid with the hoopa-hypa-lipta-gramma.
yo, its nineteen-ninety three...i mean, nineteen ninety shaq.
im not talkin to you, musty underarm odor breath.
once again, its time to get rag-a-tocious,
the tall human bein, thats right, shaq-a-tocious.
i can flow like pee, comin out you-know what,
or some dooky diarrhea comin out of your butt.
i can lick you up and down, til you say shaq.
and that was just side one of the tape. side two displays a similar caliber of
lyrical genius typical of shaqs work. if you dont plan on picking up any re-
corded shaq media any time soon, ill give you a quick summary of what can be
expected, all written out in convenient white-boy prose:
basically, shaq tells us after a lengthy intro track about how hes pretty
good at basketball. then, he tells us that, in his words, im outstanding.
shaq then explains to us about how he hates to brag, but hes just so damn
good. more stuff about basketball, lots of guest appearances, and a few
shout-outs later, shaq asks a deep, probing question: are you a roughneck?
personally, and by shaqs lofty standards, i am not a roughneck. appar-
ently, shaq is real good at basketball, as this theme is once again emphasized
before the classic Can We Rock? Whats Up, Doc, an ingenious collaberation
effort with the legendary Fu-Schnickens. a stylish outro wraps up this shaq
attack of an album. go buy it, jack-ass!
haji out.
