News fro
m the Founding Fathers:
Tang:
It was about 8:30, friday
night, snow still not melted
from the roads. Two semi-hip kids sitting in a
r
estaurant sipping now room temperature coffee and
playing c
hess. Outside, the winds continued to chill
the frozen roads
. Earlier that afternoon they had
discussed start
ing a new group, and now, they had
gathered to finalize it. The ques
tion -- The name?
What should it be? But how obvious ch
ess had a
relevance. It was a condui
t for communication, a
common meeting ground. The
re was a short while of
ponderment..then a sugge
stion. A weak suggestion, at
first, mum
bled while taking a sip of coffee...the
suggestion had been mate in 1
. They were left with
the idea. The idea meek
ly evolved over the next few
days to become
Maiten1.
Murcurochrome :
Well, it finally happened. We
got out of a bad
situation and formed
a new group. Who are we? We
are Murcurochrome, an ex me
mber from practically every
local group of 303 ever formed
, ranging from Raid, to
LiGHT, to Pulse not 303
! to daMN whew, that was
quite the long time ago and now to Maiten1. Tang,
well, hes not as
old-time as me -creak- but being in
Fire, you can believe that he knows his
shit. The
idea was simple enough
-- we needed a group that we
could run with our own rules, n
ot bowing down to any
ort of politics, no members to spend 24hrs a day to
please, nothing to hold us back. We were here to make
art, and that was ex
actly what we planned on doing. We
formed this group on the
basis that an artist out
there, oftentimes a
nobody, or someone no one would
take a cha
nce on, could get a chance. We are here to
give yo
u, the viewer, something nice to look at, and
we, the a
rtists, something to strive for. Some sort of
higher
power which will enable us to push ourselves to
the limits
of artistic talent. As you can plainly see
by the art
in this, our first pack, I can well believe
that you think we are well on our way to su
ccess. We
dont plan on being a one-time group, but Im sure
many other groups just starting out would say the same,
most of the times ending their lives in a pit of
anguish and self-loathing, eventually plung
ing
themselves i
nto something worthwhile, like working
for a living, or
cleaning the rivers around their
houses. We make no such mask to cover ourselves with.
We all have our privat
e lives, however, we intend on
spending a larg
e percentage of that time making the
best art that we are capable of doing, and releasin
g it
for you
to view. As you can see, I truely want this
group to suceed, and in
order to do so, I must have
the cooperation of the people around me.
We need to
have the respect, i
f not admiration, of the people
around us, so
that we can grow. We dont want to be
shunned off as just another newbie group
that will
nev
er suceed. We dont want to be pushed aside, so
that people can get into the larger groups, such as
ACiD, Ice
and the like. No matter how much I have
respected their art in the past, I must admit that
I
have grown
tired of seeing nothing but the admiration
of t
hem. Many people dont have the time to put
together an ansi that is over 500 lines long--it si
mply
cannot b
e done on a tight schedule. I would hope that
you, the critiques of the so-called sc
ene would be
able to give us some b
reathing room. I would hope that
the artists
out there who are in similar situations as
us would take the short
amount of time to apply.
I hope, as co-founder of this group
, that we are
successful in our striving. Thank y
ou..
