REFLECTIONNNN
hrg30 :: reflection
: we celebrate 30th anniversary of hrg artpacking..
it was the time of challenging. it was the time of competition.
it was the time of glory. it was the time of death, even..
now its time to look at the MIRROR..
: thanx to our guests:
mysterious anonymous, madasscow, enigma, darky and smith..
I had no time to finish artwork for this pack, so Im going to express
my reflection through words. When I first joined this group, in 20, I
did so because for once I saw an art group that was different from the
others. Instead of just having a bunch of people that happen to create
artwork on the computer putting their art together randomly in an
archive and calling themselves a group, HRG actually seemed like it had
a *reason* for existing. This is known to us as the HRG spirit.
Im sure that different people in the group have had different ideas
about what the HRG spirit is. Its not something that is concrete and
stable, but its the equivalent of an owl flying through the forest--
each person sees it from a different angle, and one might say they saw
a hawk, while another might say a dove.
For me personally, the spirit is an exploration of the relationship
between us as humans and the environment that we have created around
us. We all create artwork on the computer, and we know each other
through the computer. In a sense, we all live in the computer, we all
live in this environment that we as humans have designed. I think the
artwork of HRG deals with these ideas in many different ways. Yoyo
draws a man trapped in a prison, climbing a ladder to look out the
window, but he is content to stay where he is and watch from the
inside. Sprocket invents the son of typography, who is happy to play
alone with his characters. Remission creates eyelids like copper,
which seem to be inseparable from the canvas and its digital
brushstrokes. The solitary individual is constantly depicted by HRG
artists, with a multitude of expressions involved. Sometimes the
individual is at peace with the synthetic world of the canvas,
sometimes he is utterly alone even when there is excitement all around
him.
Now, more than ever, we are interested in finding out what other
people see when they are walking through the forest and look up at the
bird flying overhead. Maybe it isnt an owl after all.
To do this, we are letting anyone release artwork with us who wants
to. We only ask that you do so by following your own vision of the HRG
spirit. Any control over quality will be the responsibility of the
artists themselves. Look at older HRG packs and decide for yourself
what the HRG spirit is, then let us know through your artwork. We also
encourage everyone to collaborate with HRG artists. Find someone whose
art you appreciate and suggest an idea or offer an incompleted piece
art to be reinterpreted.
When we all talk with each other and find out where each person was
when they saw the bird flying overhead, then we end up learning not
only what kind of bird it was, but also what kind of people saw the
bird.
-GOD AMONG LICE 4/14/2000 lice@discreate.org
first of all, i am so glad to see such love for HRG from many
people in our small scene. i, among several others, was very concerned
about the future of HRG. hrg 29 was an amazing awakening from the
long hibernation. not only was hrg29 a comeback, it was a rejuvenation
in creativity for me, and hopefully several others in our sometimes
lazy scene. maybe hrg29 was a spark, to start a great fire of violent
creativity. lets hope so.
as for my pics in this pack: they are definitely a miniseries.
man into beast. man-trans-insect...transect, if you will. the process
used heavily and mostly without modification, was photocopy transfers.
that is to say that i would use photocopies and use a solvent to
melt/transfer then to other surfaces. most of the computer modification
dealt with color and composition. hence the process and the idea behind
the pictures both dealt with a transformation of some kind.
greets to madASScow, liceboy, atom128, and EVERYONE in HRG and also
all those who care deeply about keeping it alive.
REMISSION
Aenima is tool, Kissmegoodbye is cure and both joints with remi are hole
Yes, you see, Im kinda inspired by music this time..
Room picture are the results of my continuous exploration of
digital art media as I see it...
During last HRG and Milk packs Ive tried to understand what single pixel
can stand for, how it acts and forms the texture of the image..
Can the digital authoring tool produce the graphics itself?
I was inspired much by Liceboy, Incognito, Remission and Shart
and should thank them..
HRG-30 pic is a pain pic. Im afraid only 10-20 people can understand that,
if you are not among them, just enjoy russian faces..
If you are... Just know, I wish to return to this time and change it.
SPROCKET
Suck on this
I did this photomanip for an sado-masochist even called suck on this.
keep it up with HRG yahall.
30 packs is a lot, Im sure you will catch up with acid someday :
MADASSCOW
the major form of performing scene art is to release it in zip files..
we want to keep this tradition alive. the web is cool, as television..
but packs are perfect as exhibitions..
we declare our exhibition open. that means no quality control.
everyone can send pictures and they surely will be exhibited.
submit your images to spro@gazeta.ru
