ADFA Creative pack for October/November 1993
ADFA pronounced ADD-fah is a coalition of local Australian creative
talent. Where members have equal rights, and work under the same banner
to further the cause of electronic arts. Our aim is to provide quality
products for the BBS community in Australia.
Note from the President
Well here we are again. Only two months have transpired, yet so much
change has occurred in ADFA. Id like to publicly congratulate everyone
who helped contribute to this pack, and those that helped me behind the
scenes. Im amazed everything came together at the last moment.
Anyway, onto the latest group news:
1. The ADFA HQ board has moved to Terminal Velocity SysOp: JetStream.
Disorganised Crime and Rigel IV are no longer affiliated with ADFA.
These changes were prompted for various internal reasons. DisC and
R4 offered us great support, and both SysOps constantly put up with
my BS. I wish Death Lord and Deadly Avenger well in their future
endeavours.
2. ADFA no longer stands for Another Damn Fine ANSi. It is now just
a name, and not an acronym. Reasons for this should be fairly
obvious.
3. ADFA has finally expanded interstate. We now have boards in Western
Australia The Rave System, Queensland The Wasted Lands, and
Tasmania The Castle. Id like to welcome them to the group. Give
them a call.
4. Positions of division coordinators have been dropped in favour of
president and vice-president roles. Side Effect is now Vice.
There are also State co-ord roles. These people manage ADFA affairs
in their particular State. All positions are purely managerial.
5. Recently the Rebellion old Victorian demo group members reformed
under the name of Proteus. Now theyve joined ADFA and have a demo
in the works. Whilst theyre ADFA members, their releases will
still be under the name of Proteus - a division of ADFA.
6. There has been an increase in ADFA personnel. We now have over
twenty members. I would like to welcome all the new members to
ADFA, and you can check out who they are in the member listing.
7. ADFA now has a voice-mail box. You can use it to post requests, ask
ADFA-related questions, and hear about the latest ADFA news. The
number is 008-800-600 box 6078 and is a free call anywhere in
Australia. Even from a pay phone!
8. Remember creative requests can be posted via a message in any ADFA
request area, to a member, and now directly to our VMB. Make sure
you leave details of the request, and where we can contact you.
9. Check out CasCades ANSiMation parody of Central Park BBS in
CENTRAL.ZIP. Its pretty funny, but is not intended to offend
anybody. Take it with a grain of salt.
10. RedBeard has gone to great lengths to improve his viewer. It now has
ANSi scroll back, it can display .COM and .EXE files, has an 80 x 50
text mode, as well as numerous other features. The artwork is by
Side Effect.
11. ADFA is now offering apprenticeships for people interested in the
creative arts. If you want to draw ANSies/VGAs, or even compose
MODs, and you think you have the potential to become good, contact
us through the usual methods.
12. Just before our second pack was released, Randers initials RA, a
relatively inexperience ANSi artist joined ADFA. Check how much he
has improved in two months. Quite impressive.
13. Whilst some groups are still dabbling in ray-tracing which is not
art at all its just coding, check out some *real* mouse-drawn VGA
artwork from apeR, Raster, and The Illusion. There are four hi-
res VGAs which have not been coded. This problem will be fixed next
time, but for now you can view them as GIFs. apeR was finishing a
Death Row advert just as the BBS changed names. Ive decided to
release it anyway. NB: On some cards CShow will not display hi-res
pictures correctly. Try viewing them in lo-res.
14. A couple of months ago I made a comment to Side Effect that there
werent any MOD composers in Australia. Boy, was I wrong. Since
then a few musicians have joined ADFA and you can check out some
MODs they have done. ADFA raises the creative stakes yet *again*
can the opposition follow?. NB: there were some problems with
putting a MOD player into the viewer. There will be one next time,
but for now use something like DMP.
15. ADFA also has a literature section. In the future they will write
up some poetry, stories, etc. for use in ANSies or whatever. At
the moment we only have The UnderTaker, but hopefully well find
some more people interested in this creative art form.
16. Thats it! Now check out the pack..
ttfn,
