Note: to keep this list down, music-only groups aren't mentioned. In North America... Beyond - presented an intro at General Probe 3 in Poland in February. Carcass - a Canadian based group that has been active on the C64 for the past few years. They entered the PC music scene in 1996, and with coder Natas starting on the PC, look to debut in the PC demo scene this year. Cataclysm - a new group based in the southwestern US. Members include God, Nemesis, and Rimbo. They are looking for a gfx artist. Continuum - seems to have disbanded. Brazil (coder) joined Miracle. Craw Productions - no news. Members: still just LakEEE (code/music/gfx) and Psychoman (code). DCB - Frost (gfx) and Necros (music) joined shortly after NAID '96. DCB plan on attending Crash '97, so watch out. Other members: Snibble & Psyke (code), Hegor (?), and Vip (music). DC5 - have made many intros and games, not for public release of course :). Excused - see USED. Gelica - plan to release a demo this summer. Guild - no news. Hallucination - plan to release a demo at Eclipse '97 (if it happens). Hornet - Last to leave were Mellow-D and Jtown (who merely disappeared). This leaves Snowman, Trixter, GD, Phoenix, IOR, and Stony. With the birth of Trixter's son in January, coding has slowed to a crawl but a demo release by late summer is possible. Also, Walnut Creek has plans to release another demo CD and/or a music CD set. Immortal Coil - Ari (aka Stalker) joined. Intra - no news. Kosmic/KFMF - the Kosmic CD-ROM has been shipped. They released a demo called Dreams at The Party 6 at XMas, and the third KFMTV demo (Desire) at X'97 in April. Vivid & Boomer (music) left. Recent additions include Aphid Twix (gfx), Oona (music), Ink (gfx), and Legend (music). Lumental - started as The Perfect Team (TPT) with The Humanoid (code), Annihilatus (gfx), and The Hornet (music/code). They changed their name to Dee, then soonafter, Lumental. The Humanoid isn't an official member but helped out in their debut intro. The Hornet now goes by simply 'Hornet'. Miracle - presented a new demo at Spring Break '97. Their next one, 'Kittania', is due sometime this summer. Members are - Grimace & Brazil (code), Nemesis & Draygen (music), and EMegas & Kilowack (gfx). Nuclear Meltdown - no news. Opiate - well, just take a look at this mag :). Coder jmX has also been busy with other projects such as the KFMTV series, an artdisk for Skie, and an upcoming fantasy game called Artificer. Darkwolf joined as a musician. jmX is currently working on a new demo with Necros/FM, all win95 native with the music system playing back Impulse tracker files. Psychic Monks - inactive for the time being (see interview with Necros) after releasing Babylon at Assembly '96, but could make another return. Renaissance - Ryan Cramer started a nasty rumor on #trax that Amnesia 2 was in the works :). But, more believable, he did mention Daredevil was fixing older Ren demos to work right on modern machines. Satire - no news, other than they plan on attending Crash '97. No word on the release of their finished-too-late NAID '96 demo. Saw Tooth Distortion/Infotech - no news. Sensorium - no news. The Surrounders - no news. Terraformer - merging with Threesome - no name has been finalized yet. Threesome - see Terraformer. Trimaje - no news. Matju took first and second in a BBS-based 256-byte intro compo last fall. USED - Reformed under the new name Excused. Vertigo - Jcl (coder) joined. Last release was a 4k intro by Vector called Faith. Xi - the Crash organizers, Fysx and Sequencer. If they released something, guess where it would be. :) Zerius - no news. ...and in the rest of the world: Acme - Statix (code) joined from Psychic Link (possibly as a double member). Cubic - Pascal (code) left. They also seem to have more or less dropped 'Team' from the name. Dubius - plan on releasing a demo at Assembly '97, reported to have "not only 3D". They will also be making productions with DEE and Hysteria under the collective name Trauma. FM (60% Euro :) - Vic left. The big five are now: Basehead, Mellow-D, Necros, WAVE, and Zodiak. Kolor - same group as the Color who released a demo at Wired '96. Logic Design - merged with The Black Lotus. Maak - Xcene and Jisemdu left to form a new group called Dance. Orange - Galvados (code) joined shortly before TP6, leaving Jamm more or less dead in the water. Frank (ani-gfx) and Wog (code) joined last summer. Hoplite and Der Piipo (two of the three original members) seem to be almost inactive. Oxygene - less than a year into the PC scene, have ceased to be. However, many of the members are still active in the group Bomb. Pulpe - formed from the groups Kloon, Ribbon, and Ketchup Killers. A 'Polish section' of Kloon formed a few months ago, it's unsure what will become of it. Radio - the new name for the Finnish group Interamnia. Valhalla - Sandman announced at one point last year that they were dead, but it doesn't seem the case, with Optix (code) still releasing intros under the group name. Big Jim (music) is inactive but supports the group's existence. If you're in a North American demogroup, you can help out by sending a group member list and any kind of news to phoenix@hornet.org. If you're in any other demogroup, we need your group news too! As you can see, I can't keep up with all the world news alone :). Send it along to the address above.
