STOP READING! TAKE THIS FILE HOME, PUT ON A CD OR SOME MOD's PLAYING AND RESTART READING! Credits list is getting bigger as the issue's start coming out! I believe the journal will start to stabilize a little now that we have entered a new month! Hope that subscribers will keep on rising! This is the first time i'm zipping the file since it's starting to grow and we need to keep the size small for distributing if not by anything else! Chart system is still weird but now just a little more different! Section number 11 changed once again! Now it became demosceners list! What they do, where they are from and in which group they are in, all info in just 1 line! Nephoo joined in has demojournal's polish correspondent! Blame him if it starts raining non-stop on poland all of the sudden! Other then that, i wish you all a happy reading and that you become more aware of what's going on with the demoscene when you reach the final line! That's about it... Start reading! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.Credits Psychic Symphony - big nick guy - ec97104@crazy.fe.up.pt Assign - #trax keeper - assign@usa.net Nephoo - .pl demonews - nephoo@kki.net.pl Magnesium - ideas n help - dontrecall@rightnow.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.Demonews Psychic: AEG from Smash Design (C64 coder) is getting married! His fiancee wrote she would marry him as soon as possible on the big screen at wired98! I was near the compo computer at the time so i know it was HER who wrote that and not some prank joke! Dunno how i had managed to be awake at the time but i sure hope AEG was... Dunno how the rest followed so you'll just have to ask AEG himself about other details. ;) Exceed won AntIQ 98 intro compo! Rumour has it they were supposed to get second place but that members asked 'games-players' for their vote-sheet and voted for themselves! Distance is a tree! He claims i can't be a part-time alien coughing fireballs on weekends because it would be a bad tree-idea look-alike! NOT FAIR! I WANT OT BE A PART-TIME ALIEN! :( How can i explain me beeing so weird without being able to say that i am a part-time alien? Nephoo: Gravity 3 was cool party. 1 AMIGA demo supported PPC, 3 Amiga and 9 PC demos. AMIGA demo compo winner was Venus Art and on PC Hellcore - Pulse demo (code: Unreal,Camel) was 4th! Dragon#4 wasnt released at Gravity III - reason: small problems inside group, Szum/Cryogen left group and has "stolen" whole english articles for Fleur magazine. Fremen/Core - coder - joined theGrid. Adek/Melancholy - swapper >100 ctx! is looking for a group. Revelation is looking for 2d graphicians and DOS/Linux coders (rommel.revelation@usa.net) Ameba and Agi from Interror werent on Gravity'98 because they spent whole money buying alcoholic drinks one day before party... ;) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.Demonewz DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING LINES ARE THOUGH TO BE NOTHING MORE THAN GOSSIP! WE ADVERT ALL READERS AND PERSONNEL FEATURED ON THE FOLLOWING TEXT THAT I DO NOT INTEND TO PREJUDICE ANYONE BY THESE CLAIMS AND THAT I WRITE WHAT I WRITE WITH A PROFOUND ADMIRATION FOR WHAT THESE PEOPLE DO! I AM NEVER THE LESS SORRY TO FEEL FORCED TO USE THEIR NAMES AS LAUGHING STOCK! READ ON! ;) New member of tAAt 1998 already has a name: PaRRaPPa thE rApEr! Unreal/Pulse and Emma/Spice Girls are engaiged! It's TRUE! Unreal confesed after hours of torture that it was true and Emma CONFIRMED! It seems the happy couple fell in love at first sight at the courthouse when Unreal was together with Alex/Melon sueing the Spice Girls because of the effect they ripped from 'Tribes' to use on their latest video-hit 'Viva Forever'. Remember issue#1? You though it was just rumours didn't you? If it's written, IT'S TRUE! BELIEVE THE MEDIA! Camel/Pulse is already working on a wedtro! Distance is a tree. We got the confirmation! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.Party on! So it's friday already and i don't have any interview ready! Kombat and shock greated me on arrival... Kombat has to go away so i'm left with shock! hehehe Psychic Symphony strikes again! i need an interview for demojournal feeling like a victim? not again :) hmm what kind of interview? the normal stuff... hello! r u an alien? that sort of thing... sure shoot oh as long as it's not a questionaire do it on the spot right now :) ok... tell us about you... who are you, what you do and stuff like that... urk well, i'm a coder... jee, i think i'm a coder, but it hasn't been sufficiently proven i mean, i'm meant to be australian too, but that evidence isn't conclusive afaik i'm in about 3 or 4 demo groups... (trying out for the title of most :0 those being: Xtatic, RamJam, Dimension and a yet *unamed* group hum... are you looking for a new group then? btw: whats our group name? our group name is undecided... let it just evolve i'm not really looking for a new group.. i mean, too many and not enough time 'the unamed group' sounds cool! :) anyways... you live in australia? tell us about the australia scene... urk the australia scene... more commonly known as 'lack of' scene :) there isn't that much competition here, but there is talent, and it's striving! it's mainly quite a lot of young talent which is good, and gives us a chance to show off :0 but you're all over #coders... how do you explain that? well, if there is one thing we can do well, is bullshit we can talk for ageeeeeeeees but that doesn't mean we do anything we just get along with everyone, hence our popularity on #coders :) oh! i see... YOUR OFF OUR UNAMED GROUP THEN! just kidding... what do you do on real life? oh real life? i have a real life? well, seriously.. i'm a student at university, studying a computer science degree imho it's a complete waste of time, but then.. i need that little bit of paper to get a job :) other then that i play sports, get drunk, etc i'm even trying to get a racing license, so i can race cars on racetracks :) getting drunk is a sport isnt it? of course all australians should be experts on getting drunk :) hehe, you prefer beer or vodka? vodka actually contrary to popular belief, not all australians prefer beer.. actually i can't stand the stuff.. but give me spirits and i'm happy :) ah! glad that is settled... are you an alien? urm i can neither confirm nor deny that statement :) hehe... what do you think about old school demoscene? *abrupt ending due to shock fallen and me having to change computer* *after about 2 hours i get an NT and engage shock once again!* shock we need to finish our interview re :) :P hehe... what do you think about old school demoscene? old skool :) hmm... that's what started us all off i am sure the first intros/demos we saw were old skool but then you have to understand we ARE the new skool :) and we rule, just as one generation superseeds another soon, we will be old skool you think its dead? or are we still going like in the old days? i don't think it's dead we always cherish it, and remember it's glory what about 32bit gfx and 32 channels music? and photoshop pics... what about it? i mean... it's just an evolution from the 8bit gfx, 4 channel mods and dpaint pics :) the truth is all in style. we are now evolving our own styles... which co-incide with what goes on in real life but second reality seems so far away! it was i mean, but remember the first time you saw it? 5 years is not that much... yes i do! :) didn't you just go *WOW* but now you look back and it looks crap 5 years is a lifetime in the computer industry doesnt look crap but it does look antique! :P i mean, especially for hardware which is moving at an incredible rate ok, antique, to pick a better word :0 some people say hardware accelarated are not supposed to be included in the demoscene! hmmm, but then, another arguement would be,... don't use sound cards.. after all, they aren't part of the original pc i say, use hardware accelerators, as long as they include another method for support internal speaker is cool! :P bleep bleep bleep heheh actually i was amazed at the sound you could get from a pc speaker, about 7 years ago :) hehe what you think about the future then? only 3dfx demos? no the future is what we are going to make of it and i for one ain't doing 3dfx only demos after all, i don't have a 3dfx card ;) hmm but but... i mean, keep the future at the level it is now, but then i don't know what could happen in a year, a month, a week, a day i see well... i think thats pretty much it... want to say hi to anyone? if so shoot hi to all :) the entire .au scene... and to all those who care.. basically everyone i know, which is the entire #coders channel oh and to anyone who actually knows who i am :) and you psy :) i though you were gonna forget about me... :P want so say anything else or send a message to some folks? hehe nah except RamJam, Xtatic, and Dimension are going to rock the scene :) ok then...i officially declare this interview over... want some milk and cookies before going 2 bed? heheh no thanks dont forget the group without name! :) i had my cookies already ;) lol ok... cya and thx oh that too ;) cya np *and so it ended!* I am sorry i just dumped the log in here and tweaked a little with punctuation and stuff like that but turning this into a REAL Q&A would be near impossible! It's all shock's fault! He talks too much! :P --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.Demo of the week (Psychic) 'Shad' from Cocoon+Syndrome Code: Guille, Nasty, Geek Graphics: Nytrik, Tenshu, Krafton, Vyle Music: Traven Uncontested winner of Wired'98 waved byebye to runner's up 'Absolum' from BlaBla and 'Stere0mike' from The Immortals. This one brings me back a lot of memories since i went to wired98, this beeing my first demoparty ever presenting my own demo! Although my demo was crap i delighted myself with others works! And so this AWESOME piece of art still remains in my memory. A very good enviroment! With excellent design and tons of great graphics, together with great music, this one ROCKS! Very gothic and 'quake'-like enviroment which fits in great! The code is synced with music and features some nice 3D scenes above all. Only the transitions between the 3 parts are a little bad plus one particular 3D scene where the engine coufs a little even on my 233MMX! Never the less... An awesome and BIG demo well worth the 9 megs it takes! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.MOD of the week (Assign) 'merely business' by kriffin on mvp (http://moplayaz.ml.org), mvp_0012.zip yes i know, this is kriffin's second track mentioned here, but i can't change the fact, that this .it was the best track i downloaded during the last week.. it kinda reminds me of the latest ez-rollers eps - acoustic jumpup-bassline, many jazz-sequences, funky drumloops.. jazzstep ! and since i'm a confessing ez-rollers fan (even if their jazz-stuff may be quite 'placative' compared to more serious jazzstep stuff), the track really got me.. or, as the infofile says, " EH!.. go kick james last and keep ouh snapin yo fingers to this nigga!! " hehe ;) btw, in case you haven't already heard it, check out the new 4hero lp on talkin' loud.. and compare their " we who are not as others " track with " gravity lock " from blackbeat#1 (my vinyl-label), but don't forget which ep was released first heh ;) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.Commercial break! That should help the charts rise up a little for starters! What i'm trying to do is to get fresh work on the charts. Please vote! But vote according to what you have seen lately! Intro's votes are also appreciated since i forgot about them on issue#1 and kind of never occured i was missing a category on the charts! :( There are also diskmags but i don't believe diskmags should be on this chart simply because there aren't many of them out! Check out new releases section for the latest diskmags around! What i'm going to do is list the names of every single ACTIVE demoscener with what they are doing... 1 line per demoscener! Every person who thinks they should be in here is free to send in to me their info... Also i am not god! I don't even believe in god. This is all the names and information on them i can recall right now... If you see anyone missing or something wrong! Please warn me in time for the next issue! I will only post the email's of those who are willing to share them with me! So you will have to email me saying i can post your email if you want it on the list! Also... I'm trying to write only what i am positive of so that i don't make any mistakes! Help me fill in the gaps will ya? The contents do not matter very much, what i want to write about is about the review of demojournal#1 he is going to post on his diskmag hugi#12, since he sent it to me so i could have a look. I am not going to quote exactly what he wrote, the main idea is that demojournal#1 was very childish although with some interest to the scene! Well... This is my reply to that article so make sure you read it on hugi#12 when released. (http://home.pages.de/~hugidownload/) 1. The journal is small because it was the first issue and it is supposed to be read offline when you are at home staring at your computer without feeling like working! 2. The journal is childish because: 2.1. I am in the demoscene to have fun! I am studying civil engineering! I do not believe my life is going to be programming computer games like most of us demosceners. I like to have some fun before i die! 2.2. I am 18 and already in the 2nd year of university! I entered primary school with 5 years of age! There is an year missing in my life which i cannot get back. People expect strange things from me: They expect me to be more childish since i'm only 18 and expect me to be more mature since i'm on second year of university! It's hard for me to understand. Can't blame others for not understanding it! 3. I write what i feel like writing. My english is very praised by myself since i hate people miss-pronounciating words in other languages! If i swap 'has' with 'as' the world isn't going to collapse! Everybody miss-spells here and there! We ain't gods! I don't even believe in gods! 4. If you didn't get the jokes on demonewz it's your fault! Go see statix homepage and talk with unreal about the spice girls! 5. It's released weekly... I write it all down on friday night! I already have much to do without having the journal, i cannot spend every day of the week working on it... I take things home on friday afternoon and put it all together there! I apologize to all spelling freaks but i cannot spend whole weekend checking the errors! 6. How can you gather articles for a diskmag that isn't out yet? The same happened with the first issue of demojournal! It was all left for me to do! I did it. People didn't flame me, i did it again! If no one tells me to stop i'll keep on doing it! Fortunatly Assign accepted to take care of musical section and Nephoo is supplying polish news! Others have helped me here and there aswell: magnesium, gyr, shock, skrig, cremax, distance, cyg and asphyx among others! Other than these things, the journal will evolve into a more mature newsletter with time! I'm changing the structure as feedback comes in telling me that some section sucks! Thank you Adok for reviewing my attempt at a demojournal in a very professional way! It helped me focus on problems i still haven't solved! Best of luck with Hugi#12 btw. Psychic Symphony Life sukz by Psychic Symphony I see the sky ain't blue, and the ocean too! I see trees burning, and the animals too! And i think to myself: Life sukz and then you die! I see old ladies with braces And their dogs too!' I see canned beef at the shop And boy is it blue... And i think to myself: Life sukz and then you die! I see kids playing with knifes And weapons too! I see new drugs on the market but they ain't still blue! And i think to myself: Life sukz and then you die! I see the sun at cost Thru all that smoke too I see the sand at the beach And won't go back too! And i think to myself: Life sukz and then you die! I see them buses not moving Them cars too I see people working 24/day And not getting paid too! And i think to myself: Life sukz and then you die! I see a vacant BUS seat Nobody round it too! I see an old lady entering the BUS And she won't stop staring at you! And i think to myself: Life sukz and then you die! I see kids clicking them windows Their lame asweel too! I see them wondering what is an edit And why the background is blue! And i think to myself: Life sukz and then you die! I see them not caring on resolutions Or soundcards too! I see them just wanting multimedia The hell with you! And i think to myself: Life sukz and then you die! I THIIIINNNNKKKK TO MYYYYYSSEEEEEELLLLLFFFF LIFE SUKZ... AND THEN YOU... DIEEEEEEEEEEE! Psychic Symphony --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13. New releases Hum... I got this idea right before closing the editor, that means i don't have much to post! I'll get in touch with some music labels so they'll send me their week releases (if any!) so i can post them! Also i need to check ftp.hornet.org and ftp.scene.org for incoming stuff and post it here (if it is possible!) Hum... This is looking more like demonews with each new section i implement! Guess i'll just state that 'armor of gods' #4 diskmag is out on ftp.cdrom.com/pub/demos/incoming/diskmags/armor04.zip Also check all assembly'98 stuff (if still around) on ftp.cdrom.com/pub/demos/incoming/ASM98/ And get Mandula's Rage vs Scenest 98 winning demo 'Dis' on ftp.cdrom.com/pub/demos/incoming/demos/ I like the idea of this section! Hope someone helps me out getting all info in... I can't do it all myself! If you are organizer of anything, please send me some info by email or drop me a line on irc! Since your at it, tell me your votes, some news about you and your group and stuff like that! It doesn't make much of a difference as long as it all goes into just one file! And i can easily cut'n'paste it to the notepad while online! Get in touch will ya? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 14.END Well... That's it. Back to the boring day to day biz... Just one more idea for next issue: Maybe a small coding compo? Anyone having an opinion on that is free to let me know what they think! :) Please send in articles, party reports, votes, mail-listing subscriptions, some adds and whatever more you feel like writing for the demojournal to me: Psychic Symphony - ec97104@crazy.fe.up.pt Or, meet me monday or friday afternoon on IRCnet channels #coders, #pixel, #trax and #demofr. (I'm on ptnet aswell for you portuguese guys!) It's our demoscene! Let's make things happen... *Role credits to tacky music!* And that's a wrap! Alright people, let's pack things up for the week!
