STOP READING! TAKE THIS FILE HOME, PUT ON A CD OR SOME MOD's PLAYING AND RESTART READING! Issue #1 was better acclaimed then i predicted! Good! :) Due to some feedback i changed the structure a bit like the over 80 char per line bug! sorry! Won't happen again! Also, i asked assign/ethos9^tdr to take care of #trax corner so now MOD o' the week is his responsibility! Blame him for iminent armaggeddon and all other hazards that might arose on us! Anyways... This is a special issue dedicated to Snowman, Trixter, GD and Hornet in general... A special hommage to demonews! Read on and snif a little for nostalgia sake! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.Credits Psychic Symphony - big nick guy - ec97104@crazy.fe.up.pt Assign - #trax keeper - assign@usa.net --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.Demonews Mefis left the scene! :( Sadly enough mefis stopped doing music for Tokyo Dawn Records and Funk! all together and has left our beloved scene. Read all about it on tokyo-60.zip! (www.tdr.scene.org) First portuguese demoparty might be coming soon... Although there ain't been many enthusiasm around it, lots of people are still on holiday so, who knows? Maybe this december we can have the first ever portuguese PC demoparty and round up the little demosceners we got left! Foreign country sceners are welcome to drop by although i predict no one would want to... :( Hum... cremax/nothing emailed me and i quote: 'Idea: MAKE A DAMN FUCKIN PARTY IN PORTUGAL'... I'm still trying to grasp the contents but i guess he just wants me to post around here somewhere that he wants me to make a damn fucking party in portugal. Well... OK then... I'll organize it! ;) Topic of #pixel on friday afternoon: 'It's happy birthday for Acryl: send presents to acrylo@hotmail.com' Go ahead... Make his day! Bizzare 98 and Deja Vu are taking place as i write so don't forget to check cdrom.com, hornet.org or scene.org for some entries! Hope them both we're cool party's to attend! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.Demonewz DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING LINES ARE THOUGH TO BE NOTHING MORE THAN GOSSIP! WE ADVERT ALL READERS AND PERSONNEL FEATURED ON THE FOLLOWING TEXT THAT I DO NOT INTEND TO PREJUDICE ANYONE BY THESE CLAIMS AND THAT I WRITE WHAT I WRITE WITH A PROFOUND ADMIRATION FOR WHAT THESE PEOPLE DO! I AM NEVER THE LESS SORRY TO FEEL FORCED TO USE THEIR NAMES AS LAUGHING STOCK! READ ON! ;) IRC channel #coders will be renamed to #demoau! The renaming will occur with some bots help. When someone from .au enters the channel they will automaticaly be kicked out and invited to join #demoau! This will on the other hand split up our beloved scene which is already scattered into so many channels... :( Oh well... Anything to get rid of those pests from kangaroo land! ;) Sources indicate that Goblin/Xtatic never consulted a dictionary on his life! Quotes follow: ' I usually come up with bizarre names "Primal Penile Implant" :)' Now you know... Whenever your looking for a name for things instead of using 'dunno069' use goblin's technique: 'penis069' :P Goblin: Hope your girlfriend is better coming up with names when you two get a baby. Psychic has declared war against the world... This means he will salute, talk and even wave goodbye to all enemies spread worldwide. If you are an enemy... Prepare to be bombarded with further issues of demojournal and a possible greet at a demo! If you are nothing more then an innocent standby... Be warned: You can still be attacked with issues of demojournal and respects at a demo! Innocents can point the finger at gooroo/kfmf, thor/TPOLM, electric and Fear/TBL. Since they forced Psychic to a strategical retreat in the look out for a better opportunity to strike back! Counter messures against Psychic's attacks can be in the form of sending him stuff for both demojournal and his viewing torture! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! FEEL THREATNED! Gooroo: I'm coming to get you! I don't care how old you are... You're going down! (btw: still looking for a new demogroup to join?) Fear: Start trembling... It's your time to run and you know what they say 'you can run but you cannot hide!' AHAHAH! electric: Your coffee machine throw makes me laugh: 'AHAHAH!' Tremble at each release of a new issue of demojournal! Thor: OK... Your an innocent standby... You still said 'no!' to issue#1 so i have to put you on the black list. What would others think? That you could say 'no!' and get away with it? You must pay for your sins! OK, so gooroo is a nice guy and thor and electric were just having fun, as for fear... Well... fear is from TBL! But i wrote this text anyways so i might aswell spread it no? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.Party on! Anyway... Me torturing skrig follows: tell us about yourself: name, age, shoe size, alien origins... that sort of thing... My name is Simon Jensen, people know me as skrig from prone and i work for a danish game development company called InterActiVision. Im not so tall, dont weigh so much and dont wear shoes. Im not an alien. I think. Im just a really boring person. what exactly do you do again? Im a graphician in a danish game company. Scene-wise i like to work with alot of different people, but im only a member of the danish group "prone". Beside being a member of prone, i have formed a design group with aap from acme. I worked with blasphemy on their Summer Encounter demo "louis lane", where i did design like things with an encyclopedia, a program and some mechanic device. what do you think about what happened with demonews? did hornet guys do the right thing? Well.. i really liked the final issue of demonews, but i had stopped reading it for some time before... I guess it was good to make one good final issue. about the scene... for how long are you around? Well... let me see now :-) I started making some graphics-like things back in 95 i think... then i formed prone with my brother (kvark). We got some new members, (2 actually, mindwave and lonestar) which we met at Summer Encounter 96. Then we made some productions and did it again. And here we are. do you still feel the connection between the old days and the new? In my world the word "oldschool" is a negative one. I still remember and like old demos, but we have to move on. The most ironic thing is that Second Reality is still on some charts, and that is the biggest joke. i think nowdays the scene has evolved into a new bread... a new scene with its background and history. you share my opinion? Well.. I think the scene is abit split at the moment. The rising number of pure 3D demos with only camera scenes is for me not good for the scene, as these things have turned more and more into a would-be game intro. This is not good if the scene should continue being a forum of creativity and innovation, experimenting with different styles and shapes of demos. changing subject... are you really an alien? Im not sure. tell us some of your best demoscene memories TP5, the first party i was attending. Early orange demos. what about newbies? you are one of those who think all newbies are lamers or have you passed by that phase? I really like to see new groups (especially danish groups) appear and trying out some ideas. I really want to see the danish scene evolving. time for 'think fast...' first demo panic/futurecrew best demo square/pulse 3D 3D studio max windows necessary DOS XT 8086 Linux fanatics oldskool move on new bread nyt brød? lamers strange word elite old game leaving the scene Getting old best demo party Summer Encounter 98 almost done... want to say hi to some guy or girl in particular? if so... shoot! :) well... hi to danish guys, tpolm and acme one final question: why are you still with the demoscene? im in it for the money thanks for your time and feel free to take a few more lines to say whatever you feel like saying! Everyone should attend the Summer Encounter party next year. Its a blast. really. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.Demo of the week 'Dope' by Complex Code by Jmagic Music by Jugi Graphics by Jugi and Reward As this is a special tribute to demonews issue i decided to choose snowman's favorite demo: 'dope' If you don't understand go read demonews! Apart from that, the demo has nice, optimized effects with the first glimpses of 3D slideshows and a try at Vesa2.0. Also an excelent musical score by Jugi which uses 28 channels to create an awesome atmosphere! I myself don't own a GUS :( Although i recall listening to the music and trying to guess which part of the demo would be displaying at the moment... :) One of the first real quality .mod's i delighted myself with! The graphics are also of high quality and quantity here and there. Nothing extravagant. Just simple yet polished graphical backgrounds! The starting logo is impressing to say the least! Anyway... Dim the lights, turn up your speakers and galore yourself with a wonderfull piece of art that is 'Dope'! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.MOD of the week 'bastardz' by chaos/ruff engine re-004.zip (ruff.home.ml.org) russian drum'n'bass, who would have expected that.. drums from roni size, other samples from photek, spooky strings, selfspoken vocals (uhh, too bad i can't speak any russian :) and a hard and funky bassline.. not the best technique, but the formula used definitely works ! i'm definitely going to look out for more from this guy - the best 'ruff engine' track so far imho! Assign from TDR and Ethos9 has spoken and will from here on take care of this section... Actually this is the last time i'll write a line on this forsaken place! I'm out of here! Blame him for all traumatizing experiences you might encounter by going after any of his recomended tunes! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.Commercial break! Post your site here! Send the url to: ec97104@crazy.fe.up.pt Hornet Demo Archive: www.hornet.org Tokyo Dawn Records: www.tdr.scene.org http://geecs.org/~nico <--- for a complete mental experience --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10.Charts This is probably the weirdest chart system you will ever encounter: Every time i review it i will withdrawn 1 point from each votee and add this weeks votes! Votes are gathered from anywhere: if you have 1 line stating the best group, demo, coder, tracker and graphician of the moment just let me know so i can put it here... Use email or irc, i don't care how just get it to me... You can vote on whomever you want as long as they/it exists! The point of this method is to get ride of innactive people and have a chart with the current best of the demoscene... Of course this is only possible if i get more votes... :( So make sure you vote for issue#3! Group: Cryonics(1) COMA (1) Cocoon (1) Demo: 'Tired of Techno' by Dawn3 (johnny_w.zip) (1) 'Square' by Pulse (pls_sqr.zip) (1) 'Shad' by Cocoon+Syndrome (shad.zip) (1) Code: Slyde (1) Statix (1) Echo (1) Music: Mefis (1) Groo (1) Smash (1) Graphics: Acryl (1) Made (1) Sunday (1) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.comp.sys.ibm.pc.demos This functions like a newsgroup... Just send small messages to me and i'll post them in here. For next issue i'll gather some messages and replys posted on comp.sys.ibm.pc.demos if i find them relevant. Idea: MAKE A DAMN FUCKIN PARTY IN PORTUGAL Demonews: See...Wait...Who cares?... Nothing ;-) Cremax/Nothing >Idea: MAKE A DAMN FUCKIN PARTY IN PORTUGAL I herby summon thee to come to .pt.party 98 taking place on porto/portugal on mid-december! Don't start with excuses! Psychic Symphony/Label --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12.Articles 'Hommage to demonews!' by Psychic Symphony I finished reading the final issue of demonews a couple of minutes ago! It was the very first time i read ANY issue of demonews! There where stuff i had been told about but nothing like seeing it for yourself! I had the idea of this demojournal without any awareness of demonews whatsoever! There are lots of things i have learned with reading just that one final issue. I have learned about the ways of the past and that the future holds nothing more then certain oblivion! I guess that is why imphobia stopped beeing released aswell! I understand now. I have become wiser since a couple minutes ago! It's so weird... You always think you know too much and yet you are always learning there is so much still to learn... I don't feel like writing. I feel like looking outside. Just looking at an whole space full of weeds and rotting buildings! Looking at our decay! Looking at those 2 dots on the sky supposed to be stars... One is Jupiter! The brightest star... The brightest one... is not a star... It's a planet! It's Jupiter. So many times have i been hearing music looking at that sky with the same weeds on the land, with the same buildings as a skyline... So many times have i looked outside looking for inspiration. Today i have to write instead of looking outside! I can hear the crickets whistling due to the heat! It's hot today! It went up to 32 degrees and the crickets always start whistling when it's hot... The hotter it gets, the louder they whistle! Why do i keep writing this? On demonews they said the scene was dying... That the new generation only cares on windows capabilities and 3D accelarations! It's not true! They say the true demoscene spirit lies within the 64k intros! It's not true! You want to know what true demoscene spirit is? Is 3 people who will never see each other, who live separated by sea, on the other side of the world, who don't even breath the same air come together and debate a name for their group! It sounds bad... Poor shock over there on australia by this time he must be waking up to go for the university! It's 1:09 in portugal! And poor idiotboy. Restrained in the land of oportunities without anyone to give him a hand... Poor me... Over here with whisteling crickets and hardly no demoscene at all! Who cares? Nobody cares... Nobody gives a damn and you know why? We are 3 guys in 1 world... 1 world in an entire galaxy and we waste the little time we have left looking at a monitor, debating a name... We can't get a name for our group! The entire human race can seize to exist in a second and we are debating a name for a multicontinential group of 3 teenagers who will most probably spend the rest of their lifes tagged with their computer memories for ever! And what memories are those? Events we wanted to go that we couldn't. Demos assembled by other people who will be haunted by their computer memories until oblivion aswell. Music tracked by minds we wish to unravel... So many things to learn about the past and the future, yet we talk to a stranger to the scene and they think we are empty of knowledge! They think we are computer nerds... How i laugh at them. How i wish i could explain to them about our community... They wouldn't understand. And frankly, they wouldn't care! Demonews is right! The scene is dying! Nobody cares... People get old and forget about the little details in life such as that once they formed a group with some guys they didn't knew very well and made things happen on a monitor! Nobody cares! I said it before and i'll write it again: 'life sukz and then you die!' IT'S TRUE! Face it! You are here to let the human race live... You think anyone cares what einstein did on his free time? Or what Pascal inspired himself with? They don't care... They just want our race to prosper! 'The very notion of appocalipse states that mankind must seize to exist. At least in a material form! Like all species we must evolve!' The demoscene has also evolved! Demonews and imphobia are a part of an old race: The younger demoscene! Nowdays we have internet with ftp's and irc's... Newer diskmags. Diskmags that ask for vesa2.0! Music with ressonance filters! Graphics with 32bit colours! Just because the scene is turning different doesn't mean it's no longer the demoscene... I wish i could have been through the 'good old days' advancing to C64 then amiga and with 386 PC... But it didn't happen! I had a games console! I had a 486dx2. Shit happens! Or to put it another way: 'Life sukz and then you die!' Today i pay an hommage to demonews with this issue of demojournal! Respect to you! You helped the demoscene prosper and then you died! The newbie doesn't care if he is playing with windows or DOS, just like a baby doesn't care if he is playing with a ball or a grenade. He isn't aware of what all the fuss is about... All he wants is to play! And when some years later he realizes he did a terrible mistake he looks back ashamed and respects those who tried to take his toy away! Let us play... We will respect you later. For that you can be sure of! You already have my respect! Others will follow... Psychic Symphony --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13.END This is it... End of issue #2 of demojournal... Subscriptions askings are starting to come in... Still lacking lots of stuff but this is only issue#2 so i can't blame people! Hope that next issue will have some more support, not only spreading but also sending stuff! Special thanks to Magnesium, Gyr, Programmed, Salami, Assign, adok, Cremax, shock, asphyx and cyg for their ideas, support, some votes and very positive and constructive reactions on the first issue! Also thanks to skrig for helping me take care of the interview of the week! I would greet some more contacts i have but they already know i say hi because i keep on bothering them all the time. :P Still trying to get a contact on each country in the world so might as well send me an email saying hi! :) Send anything you might think to be usefull like your votes, articles, comments, subscription askings, party invitations, coding tips, party reports, contacts, ansi logos and stuff like that. It's not that hard... Just one email saying who kicks ass right now with best group/demo/code/gfx/music, some words, an article if you're inspired, some info on some party your thinking of attending, a small message to the scene and an addy if you wish to make yourself known to the world! If you just had the time of your life at some demoparty... Let us now how it was... Even if it was crap, warn us! It's our demoscene! Let's make things happen...
